Small brands should remember their most effective trump card over bigger competitors: personality. It’s something Etsy shop Make Me… by Alice has in buckets! It made it a real pleasure to work on a new visual identity for the brand.
Knowing your strengths
Small businesses might not have endless resources to play with, but that doesn’t mean they can’t take creative risks. Whenever I have favoured a small brand for a purchase it tends to be because they are offering uniqueness: both in product and personality. It’s those small businesses who know what their uniqueness is, which flourish.
Make Me… by Alice is one of those! The personality in this Etsy shop and it’s owner Alice Ross already expresses itself in her products for fun, creative and conscious mums.
Alice’s USP is that she will customise anything in her shop to suit her customers’ tastes, to give a really authentic experience of ordering her hand-crafted items (bestsellers include knitted bunting and baby booties!) She also takes custom commissions and recently made a three piece poppy outfit complete with woolen replica Doc Martens for one customer (I want this in my size).
The Make Me… by Alice logo expresses that sense of fun and creativity, and hints at the handmade, with an abstracted ball of wool/scribble device and a hand-drawn style typeface.
